DreamDare's Novice Study Plan

Hi, this topic is for my novice study plan process updates. I am 30 years old, I didn't play chess since when I was a kid. I was never especially good at it, but I love what it has become with online communities, easily available books and tactics apps.

Chess is specially interested to me, because it is a clear competitive discipline in which improvements can be tracked, and also, its concepts can overflow into other competitive fields. Im a sucker for improvement techniques be it in competitive gaming, sports or gym. I want to see how good i can get, since chess is pure strategy and calculation, and ELO was basically invented for chess, it is perfect for tracking how good one can get with smart practice. These are my stats:

  • Puzzles: 1390
  • Rapid: 601
  • Daily: 1058
  • Blitz: 243

I've got this program few weeks ago but i waited for a better moment to start it, since i was extremely busy with work. I've played Daily games since then so my rating is higher there. I feel i can get higher since wins still come relatively easy, but i know i will strugle with rapid or blitz since time management isn't my strong suite.

Few notes about my plan:

  • I have diamond Chess.com profile so I will watch all of the begginer/intermediate/advanced basic guides.
  • Out of books i have everything listed in the novice manual, + Soviet chess primer. Im really looking forward to them.
  • On phone i have "tactics for begginers" app which i intend to use for Woodpecker method (im one week deep into it) . This will probably mess up my plan a little bit, but it seems worth it.

Lastly, i just want to show how i organized the tracing. A simple excel table, with white fields signifying what needs to be done, a gray what doesn't:

  • PD - play daily
  • PR -  play rapid
  • PB - play blitz
  • SA - self analysis
  • MA - master game analysis ( logical chess)
  • T - tactics
  • O -openings
  • S-strategy
  • E-endings
