Dynamic Openings

I'm sure as most seasoned chess players know, some openings are more dangerous and exciting to play. Some can be dull and boring. I think that this is a good topic for anybody who wants to share an opening that they find interesting or dynamic.

To start, I would to share an opening that I find quite intriguing.

(An excellent article by user MagicMan01)

I am referring to the Halloween Gambit. It was previously dubious, but new research and theory has ressurected it. The catch is that unlike a normal pawn gambit, it is a KNIGHT for a pawn!

I would like to reference that article, and seriously, everything to learn about Halloween Gambit!

Very interesting opening. It would be fun to play! It seems that after 10. 0-0-0 white has many tactical combinations available to regain the gambit material and possibly more.

The  #1 Halloween Gambit player here is Gonnosuke (2719).  He also likes the Muzio Gambit, where White again sacs a knight in the King's Gambit.

Yes. In the article it has MagicMan01 vs Gonnosuke which is quite interesting. Josh and I are playing that MM01 are playing that retreat variation, but around move 12 he improved on his game...and now I can no longer rely on Gonnosuke's moves

What a great opening!

The only way for black to defend well is really to give back the material:

Quite a gambit indeed. Thank you for sharing it killthequeen. MagicMan01 has done a great job too.

The last variation of the Halloween Gambit is very interesting: Instead of white playing 6. f3 I'd rather play 6. Be2 and then if 6.... Nxc3 or 6.... Bxc3+ then 7. bxc3 or is there another trick or treaty for those ones?

Recently one opponent of mine got me into Benko Gambit, which I had never played before. For players with a better knowledge of opening theory this example must look very clumsy. After all the Benko Gambit has been played by several World Champions.

For those who are interested in Benko Gambit's background here are some links to it:

Thanks for that I have played the Benko a couple of times as I tolerate Wing Gambits, but don't know the theory behind it
