E4 or D4

E4 or D4?  Which one is better in your opinion?  You don't have to use any of them to comment.  You just have to have an opinion. That's how easy it is!  Feel free to insert diagrams and argue your opinion. Have fun!

I like d4 followed by c4.  It opens the diagonals for the bishops.  It seems more open.

I like d4 better but I don't use because I haven't had time to learn about its uses.

d4 is my choice, though I sometimes I do e4...

e4 because it leads to more games which is my style.

d4 and queens gambit are good but I think e4 is safer.

e4 is arguably better for beginers.

I like it because it is wildly tactical and has my two favorite openings, the KG and the Sicilian

e4. I really love the openings that come out of it, particularly the Grand Prix whenever I'm facing a pesky Sicilian player. ;-)

Queens gambit is good but black does not have to play d5.

1. e4 leads to more tactical play overall, with a bunch of initiative for both sides. These can range from the Sicilian Defence 1.e4 c5 or the infamous Kings Gambit. 1.d4 leads to more positional play overall, examples including the many Indian Games, and the Queens Gambit, which can lead to very rigid and positional games.

Yes, I agree 1. d4 often leads to blocked positions while 1.e4 leads to more open exiting positions.

I like d4 followed by nc3 as it places a gaurd on e5 and e4

I like d4 then c4 then Nf3 then g3 and Bg2 then Nc3

Also e4 then Nc3 then Bc4

I prefer d4 followed by d5 as white. I prefer e4 followed by d5, exd5 and Qxd5 as black.

I've changed my opinion. e4 is superior as long as black doesn't do Sicillian.
