Does anyone have an opinion on the future of 'books' ? Will the ebook bubble burst or will it plateau ? Will sales stabilise at a particular ratio ?

Thoughts ?

Ebooks are a great way to self publish and get yourself out there to get noticed

A lot of people buy ebooks. I was reading an article about a woman that started writing e books and then was offered a hefty advance to write more through a publisher. Even if you don't get published you can e books in a way you want paperbacks

Dunno, but the big book stores still had long lines around Xmas time. There is something about the physical feel of a book I prefer to an ebook or reading online but its probably a generational thing and eventually they will wither away.

I agree ed.  I have a collection of rare books dating back to the 1500's. My grandfather owned many rarebook stores in manhattan and boston so i understand where you are coming from. However,  i also have a kindle and see where things are headed. there are much more oportunities today for authors to sucessfully self publish than there ever was before.

I buy loads of books, but haven't bought in a shop for probably about ten years. I do like the physicality of paper. Although I have a few eBooks myself, nevertheless I'm surprised at their popularity.

I'm reading "CreateSpace & Kindle - Self-Publishing Masterclass", by Rick Smith. He recommends uploading to CreateSpace first and then apparently translation to Kindle format is very easy...
