That's absolutly right. This interface looks like it was created by enthusiasts for some other free site.
Previously, when you switched to variants, you ended up in switch mod, which had a bunch of problems. That was back in 2022, or maybe even earlier.

Currently, the variants interface is completely unsuitable and the changes have affected not only zh but also KOTH and 3-check. If bughouse is transferred in the same way, it will kill the entire scene.
There you can play some variants like War for Throne II with 1+5 or 2+7 or 4+0 control. This cannot be compared to competitive games in our community.
I've been playing here since the very beginning, since the first Crazyhouse Championship in 2016. I don't understand why the site is making changes so unprofessionally. Ratings zh for different time controls are completely ridiculous and have never been seen anywhere else in history.

The current generation doesn't know what Thief is and it's unclear whether they'll want to learn about the client.
Currently there are two alternatives: pychess and bughouse.pro
However pychess does not have individual ratings.
l think its non acceptable as a crayzhouse player. ıf they want this we want lichess.

Agreed, chess.com has completely ruined crazyhouse and there is little to no prospect of it improving.
I dont understand what it cost them to leave crazyhouse as it was.

After that, there was an excellent lichess clone called bughousetest, but its creator paid alone for the host and eventually got tired of it and shut it down.
What we are witnessing now signifies the end of era zh chess com.
I think something similar could happen to bughouse. Even when it appeared on the main site, there were constant glitches, and they have been happening all these years.
When people ask about variants server, they probably don't know that it has been in a rather raw state for several years.
This is all very strange considering the recent Crazyhouse and Bughouse World Championships, where many GMs and NMs played, as well as the BWC with commentary by Yasser Seirawan on the stream.
