Endgame Evaluation Exercises #1

1. White's pawn cannot be saved so black is winning.
2. Rc8 maybye? Activity looks good in endgame i think.
3a. White have advantage as it has two connected passed pawns on queenside. But one pawn difference with opposite colour bishop often end in a draw. Maybe its a draw if black play correctly.
3b. Same as 3a, but white may have a slighlt larger advantage than in 3a.
3c. White is losing due to Be2 skewer. b7 control is firm for black.

1. The position is drawn. Black will get the f-pawn no matter what. But white will eventually play something like h4 h5 to trade one of black's pawns and get into a K+B vs K+B+P endgame, which is almost always drawn if the pawn is not that far advanced.
2. Intuition tells me that Rc8 is the right move. It takes control of the open file and white's loose pawns will fall. Also notice that the white rook is horribly placed on h4.
3a. The position is drawn if black defends properly. Black will activate the king and blockade the light squares. Black can also make threats with their kingside pawn majority.
3b. Now this is winning for white. The pawns are too far advanced already. White will move the bishop and march the king and pawns up the board together.
3c. Now I think that white is losing. Black can play Be2+ and take the pawn on a6. Black will then keep the bishop on a6 to prevent the b-pawn from advancing, and advance the e- and f-pawns slowly.
2. White has just played 42. b4??, losing the game on the spot. There is only move for black that leads to a winning position. What is the move? (I definitely am not the idiot that played b4)
3a. This is an opposite colored bishops endgame, where white is a pawn up but has connected passed pawns on the queenside. Evaluate this position. Is white winning, losing, or is this a draw?
3b. A couple of moves later, we got to this position, with white to move. Is this winning, losing, or drawn for white?
3c. A few more moves later, this position was reached, where white has just played b6. Is this position winning, losing, or drawn for white?
