Equalizing in the Smith-Morra Gambit!

Hey guys, it's been a very long time since my last post in this series. And that's due to multiple factors. The first factor is that there's no more easy-to-refute openings that are clearly bad like the Englund Gambit. So I'll have to put more work into each and every one of these. I find Chess.com's every gambit refuted series a huge blessing though. And Grandmaster Eugene explains things really nicely. I recommend you check it out if you want more detailed explanations. The second one is that school has kind of reached peak the time of year where it's most important to study and do all of that jazz. Since it's spring break, I want to get a fair amount of these posts done for you all to just make things up. I hope you will continue to enjoy these posts as much as I enjoy making them. Enjoy!

Much appreciated! I needed this... to stop losing while up 3+ pawns

Wait you're supposed to play Bb4?! I knew the beginning of the refutation was Nc6, e6, but I usually just play g6, Bg7. Probably explains why I get slaughtered due to a lack of development. I face this opening a lot though, so this will be helpful to my everyday chess.

the among us pieces scared me for a sec.

jokes aside, great post, I face the smith morra gambit a lot of times and I have no idea how to deal with it.

Of course there's lots of other options. Grandmaster Eugene (The person who I got my info from in his nice series) Just recommends it from experience. Everyone has a different taste though

I forgot to put it from black's perspective sorry about that. I think you can just flip the board manually though

I actually play the Smith-Morra as white. From my personal experience (which is admittingly like five games) and I’ve never came across any Bb4 lines. I’ll have to look out for them more if I really want to continue with the Smith-Morra. Most of my opponents have played Scheveningen structures. After Qe2, Rd1, e5 ideas are strong, but I’ll have to look at Bb4 lines. Thanks, nice post
