Even masters lose epically to 1500s sometimes. I speak from personal OTB experience.

Yeah, my older brother was beating masters when he was in the 1500's.

I beat a 1600 in a tournament, drew another 1600, and lost to a 650 all in the same tournament. Last week. That last one hurt. Thought my rating was about to go up a 100...only went up 18 🙃

This happened in a USCF online event today. I was the underdog, but was able to trade down and then flag my higher rated opponent.

I'm a 900 USCF and beat a 1600 OTB. It was wild. Then the next tournament I lost against a 550. Such is life.
