Ever feel robbed with the averaging of ELO?
This isn't complaining asking for change. This is just a bit of a whinge.
I've been a mid 1900 [RD 62] 4p modern for a few months, I got into a game with ~2400, 4000+ games to my left and right, my opposite was a 1400, like an idiot I didn't check ratings.
[great match making... I abandon with this kind of mismatch, lose a point or two or get 3rd and lose more]
So I play my opening and 6 moves later after opposite has been mated or resigned, after pushing a lot of pieces forwards so left & right have plenty of dead pieces to take and promote with rook/knight pawn.
I played like a demon, obviously the higher ranked players want to pick points off me, but they also wanted to give me space to pick off their real opponent. I played super tight defensively, but I also throw sacrifices that cause left and right to fight each other.
Against the odds, 50 sweaty moves later, I win. I beat, by average 3 * 2060 players, +~20 elo is my prize... great..., I didn't beat 3 near peers, I won flanked by 2 players +500 elo compared to me that had a 1400 across donating points and easy promotions to them for 6 moves.
I'll try find the game in my arc. But has reward ever been different? because average doesn't feel right.
glicko is kind of complicated so if 1900 wins against 2400 & 2400 & 1400 is the same as 1900 wins against 3*2060, then I'll shut up, I'll actually shut up anyway. I just want to know has there ever been something different tried?
I played in a 10 sec bullet tournament. I was 1700 when I joined. But I came fourth out of 500 and lost nearly 200 points. I never gained rating even by beating stronger players. I just lost less rating. I was literally robbed of my hard work getting to 1700. Now I am 1598

interesting point im mid 2400s currently but when i was around 2350s i had a game against a 2401 a 2472 and a 2500 winning and gaining 27 rating i felt like that was a lot

other than that im fine because i feel like ur 20 rating gain was pretty fair but probably shouldve been like 22-23 points possibly 24

you gained less because the 1400 came last, otherwise you wouldve gained more rating. your glicko is also very stable so you gained less, but imo 20-23 points should be fair compensation.

is it possible to get below 1000 rating in variants
It is, another more recent game [I didn't check ratings again] I was green [last to play] I had a 70 game ~900 across from me, ranked 29,306 out of 29,437 [I swear some people should stick to eating crayons] 2300 to my left and a 2000 to my right
I even tried defending the 900's pieces, I should have betrayed early but I forgot to check ratings, so that was a 3rd and -10 point loss for me. Because it averaged to 1 loss v a 1730 when realistically I came 3rd against 2 * 2150s
Kind of disappointing as I had a good record against the 2300.

they refuse to put new people in a place with other new people for training, (4pc teams) instead they turn them loose on us to make one move then resign so we lose 30 points. we win 2 or 3 usually. so we get mad as hell. chess.com says take your chances or don't play. LOL. thanks chess.com, good lookin out.

Same. I joined a rapid 10 min tournament. I was around 900 when i joined. just by losing one match to 600 rated player i got -60 and never came back to 900s.
