Hi,

Today , we will analysis a game of chess between Paul Morphy (white) and Alonzo Morphy (Black). This game was in 1849 in New Orleans ended by checkmate from Paul . Our analysis will include the fundamental moves like e4 at the first time. Now let's begin our discussion.

White: Paul Morphy

Black: Alonzo Morphy

1.e4 ……..

This move is a theoretical move which desires to occupy the e4 square and control d5 square so this is a very good move because it controls two squares of the four middle squares besides it gives the Queen and King's Bishop the freedom to move.

1…….. e5

This is a very good reply in the theory because it also control two of the middle squares and after it you can get out the Queen and King's Bishop.

2.Nf3 ……..

For spreading the knight and have a semi threatening action which is to pick up the e5 pawn but the pawn will back by unlovely variation:2……. c6 3.Nxe5 Qe7 4.d4 d6 ……..etc

2…….. Nc6

To protect the pawn and spreading the piece.

3.Bc4 …….

Has a tactical style which threatens the weak pawn f7 in Black's encampment 3……. Bc5

Ignoring the threatening and gives like-threatening .

4.b4! …….

Gambit! Sacrifice a pawn to earn moves and occupy the middle

4…… Bxb4

5.c3 Bc5

6.d4 exd4

7.cxd4 ……..

Now, White has the ideal middle!!!

8…….. Bb6!? There is a considerable variation 8…….. Bb4+ but I don't have enough experience to analysis it. Help me for this point.

8.o-o ……..

Protecting the King and to get the business of the rock quickly

8………… Na5

Threatening the Bishop

9.Bd3 ………

Escaping and protecting the middle

9………… d5

Occupy some of the middle but he will lost a move in the next moves

10.exd5 …….

He can move e5 but he want to finish early by opening the (e) column

10……… Qxd5

11.Ba3 …….

Participates the Bishop in the fight.

11………… Be6

Also but in the defense.

12.Nc3 Qd7

The Black lost one move.

13.d5! ……….

Try to remove the Bishop from the (e) column

13………. Bxd5

14.Nxd5 ……..

Good job the Bishop has been removed from all the board .

15.Bb5+ ………..

Force to begin the net of checkmate.

15…….Qxb5 16.Re1+…….

The end begin to be seen in the horizon.

16…….. Ne7

17.Rb1 …….

Enters the other Rock in the fight and threatens the Queen to be not able to defend her King.

17………. Qa6

As Paul wanted

18.Rxe7+ Kf8

19.Qd5 …… Threatens checkmate!!!

19……… Qc4

Good try but noway from the sharp and successful play of Paul (forcing checkmate during two moves)

20.Rxf7+ Kg8

21.Rf8#####

1-0

CHECKMATE

Note: I'm sorry because of my analysis that can't cover all considerable moves because my experience is somehow little.
