ACTIVE CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

                The cream of the crop of the country's  top Executive chess players will gather and collide anew in a friendly competition of the exciting 2009 edition of this 35-year-old glamorous chessfest.  Tournament organizer Jun Balgan invites new Executives and professionals to test  the mettles of their elders in this battle of minds and wits to be held on  April 25, 2009 (Saturday) 10 AM at the fully air-conditioned John Lloyd KTV & Restaurant, 1524 Pedro Gil (formerly Herran) St., Paco, Manila (near Quirino Highway, vicinity of La Concordia College & PLDT)

Makati-based Philweb Corporation joins the ever-growing list of sponsors to add more prestige to this event co-sponsored by Human Plus products. 

 

First leg winners Dr. Jenny Mayor in Group A and lawyer Cliburn Orbe in Group B. In second leg, winners are Dr. Jenny Mayor in Group A and Engr. Joseph Galindo in Group B.  tries to make it two in a row against an array of top-caliber players that includes lawyer Quirino Sagario, businessman Noel Garcia, insurance specialist Ray Marras of Las Pinas City, physician Johnny Corrales of Camiguin, computer engineer Orly Pascual, Lito Dormitorio of DAR, Businessmen Jun Balgan, Agrifino Camposano of Naga City, Atty. :ep Malagar, Professor Jess Sanchez,  Carlito Andres, Jr. of Dasmarinas, Cavite and Erven Perlas of Quezon City, architect Niel Dumlao, NCFP Executive Director Willie Abalos, therapist  Mel Jacob engineer Efren  Bagamasbad, Francis Dimarucut, chess coach and trainers Ric Portogalera  and  Ed Agagon and  San Miguel Corporation retiree Leo  Ricana.

 

Expected to crowd the favorites are other Executive players who failed to join the first and second leg, Among them are Loren Tabilog, Ryan Franco, Malik Gumama, Ferdinand Palermo, businessmen twins Roland and Ronald Barbon, lawyer-brothers Joe and Chris Aspiras, Ernie Gonzales and Rey Granada of Calamba City, aviator Amando Labarda, dentist Alfredo Paez, Rey Miguel, engineers, Sibuyan Island, Romblon and  Arnel Penero of Pila, Laguna, entrepreneur Butch Villavieja, Cyrus Donasco of Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, Romy Talavera of Quezon, Rey Miguel, con-tractor Juancho Caunte and Ric  Martin and  many more.

 

There are 2 groups.  Group A: 2000 & Above NCFP Standard Rating  which will play the quadrant <Double Round Robin><Registration is P1,000> and Group B: 1999 & Below latest NCFP Active Rating which will be a Swiss System affair <Registration is P700>.  Big cash prizes and products from the sponsors awaits the winners. Top 8 in Group A &  Group B will advance to the Grand Finals in a two-day 16-man Round Robin affair in September.

            Rate of play is 25 minutes per player. Strict guidelines for new Executive applicants will be enforced. You are qualified if you are in the status of:

a) Businessman / Entrepreneur

b) Executive position in the government offices and privates offices

c) Professional eg. Lawyer, Engineer, Doctor in Medicine etc.

d) AFP or Military Officers

e) Police Officers
