I love Fog of War. It is amazing how many games you play against stronger players that look like they were played with full sight of the board.

The archer piece idea looks really cool, might be difficult to code, however.
For custom variants we have this nice club here: https://www.chess.com/club/custom-variants, it's where members can submit their variant ideas and test games.
Main hurdle with this one would be coding and developing the archer piece
