and from what I learned while playing, the best way to improve fast-ish is to find a way that is most suited for you to learn, study and train, and you will get good fast enough, however many high rated players assure that you can get easily to 2000 just by playing over and over, so choose whatever path you like
and by the way, you should try horde, it is amazing, I like it even more than atomic, so give it a try

lichess has studies in many variants. I have read many of them, as well as online videos as to how to improve at some of the variants. I just beat a 2100+ rated player over at lichess at anti-chess (giveaway). Actually he blundered the game away to me when he had a won position, but that happens...
