I once started 4/4. Then I ran into @canwedoit who is now an NM, and he destroyed me. I finished with 4.5/8. This was back when we had 8 rounds.
I always get killed in the early rounds cuz of the swiss pairings and usually win 2 or 3 games later on

That's the normal experience for lower-rated players in a Swiss tournament. It happens to me too.
occasionally I get lucky and beat I high rated player
