I not too sure about this, but because there is a focus mode in standard chess, maybe add a focus mode to 4 player chess? Let me know what you think below.

uhm I think you should still have chat, it's way more important in 4-players then in normal chess

But focus mode is optional, and people who don't want to see chat(for various reasons) can use it.
