Yes I agree it was better before! Definitely more difficult to work out opponents moves and try and remember where their pieces are
Fog of War background image

I think it's clearer now which ones are not occupied so many black and grey compared to dark and light green?
In that respect yes I agree, but surely there is a middle-ground? Now it is so difficult to distinguish "fogged" squares, whereas before you could see the diagonals etc etc

About to give up with fog of war until this is made optional - really can't stand looking into an abyss of fog - the eyes are trained to follow square colours and shapes.

I also might add I lost of lot of games trying during the rapid games to find an option to turn it off - ruining the experience for the opponent and for my rating

Yea I think what we need is a toggle/option, to choose between the old shaded squares and the new static image. Probably staff added the image of the actual fog to make it more intuitive for newcomers, but not being able to quickly tell apart the dark and light squares is a pretty big loss.
how about
?
It was fine as it was before... I don't see why websites constantly feel the need to change things when they generally only make them worse
how about
?
Looks good to me, provided that we have an option between the old one and this. This shows the dark/light squares, and is also obvious about which squares are in the fog. I think making the fog obvious can be helpful in time pressure/bullet, and also to guide newcomers. My opinion is that it's not strictly necessary though, so a toggle/option will be appreciated.

how about
?
better than its current graphics and i would be happy with it
i agree
Squares which are in the fog have been replaced with a static image of actual fog. Is there any way to turn this off? Before this change, squares in the fog simply appeared darker/shaded, so we could still tell which were dark squares and light squares. The issue is that this image of actual fog does not show the dark and light squares.
