fog of war tips?

Good advice, although I don't like to leave my king in the center unless you can lock up a few of the pawns, because inevitably you will be faced with a difficult choice later when exchanges happen since there are more lines to the center. You always have to ensure that in the event of an exchange you are not opening unsafe lines to the king.

Your point about baiting reminded me of another tip related to exchanges. Typically, when your opponent initiates an exchange and you have multiple defenders you would recapture with the least valuable piece first to mitigate losses. However, if your opponent captured a minor piece and you could recapture with either a rook or the other minor piece (e.g., if he captured with a knight and you could recapture with either bishop or rook),  it's often good to capture with the rook first because it may bait him into recapturing with a queen. This only works if he would not know about your defending minor piece, and is more likely to succeed if he knows your queen is elsewhere. I've won a number of queens for rooks this way.

If you've captured one of your opponent's bishops, be certain to know which one it was.
