Fun Game I Just Played

The only major blunder that I am aware of making in this game was 17. Qf3 because black could have followed with 17... RF8. Fortunately he did not. All the tactics flowed from the positional advantage I gained.

hmm... I haven't posted games much before. that doesn't give all the moves. Can anyone tell me how to post the full game?

I just put the moves in manually. Should work this time.

You missed 10 Qh5+ Kf8 fxg5 Nxd4 Bd3, winning the Bishop and avoiding complications with Black harassing the Queen.

One interesting idea would be 18 h3 Ne5 (...Rf8 Qe2 Ne5 [...Rf2 Qe1 Rf8 hxg4] Qxh5+) Qe4 d6 Nf3, fixing your doubled pawns and trading pieces while you are ahead.

32 Rxe6 is much stronger than Bxe6. After ...Kb7 (...Nxe6 Bxe6 winning the Queen) (...c5 Re8+ Kb7 [Queen is pinned] Bxd7 winning the Queen) Qxd4, White wins another piece and does not have to worry about ...e5, forking the Queen and Bishop.

Thanks for the analysis Mike. I have included your lines in a new board.

I think you are right about checking with the queen and then taking his bishop with my pawn avoiding complications. However, I did anticipate his flailing around with his knight in an attempt to wriggle out of losing the bishop. I caluclated the line where I gave him the fork in exchange for his a8 rook and I felt that I wanted the position to be complicated becuase he was far worse off. After the line you suggest here, though he is a piece down, his position is pretty solid and he might be able to scrape his game together. With my king stuck in the center that might not go too well.

On this line I was confused by your Qxh5+ I think everything else looks like very positionally sound advice. thanks.

Very solid analysis on this. Its somewhat moot given the resulting position from my trade. After getting his queen off the board there is no way he could have preveted me from promoting, and then with two minor pieces a rook and a queen well... there's nothing else to say Tongue Out That and I think letting him keep his queen after ...KB7, Qxd4 gives him a lot more play.

Thanks!

That's an interesting point, but you're playing hope chess with that line; if Black just plays ...Bxf6, he gets out with his Bishop. ...Nxf6 is tempting and it's not immediately clear that it doesn't work, but you should always expect the best move from your opponent.

As for the Qxh5+ line, I miscalculated; Qxe5 is much stronger.

Qxd7+ does trade the Queens and simplify, but you don't have to yet. Your Queen, Rook, and DSB are ready to lunge in for a strong attack, the LSB can jump to f3 where it is very strong, there are sacrificial prospects on d6, and the g5-Knight can hop from h7 to f6 and kick the Black Queen, when she has almost no squares. You say counterplay was a concern, but Black's Queen has no effective way into the game; the White Queen is far superior, so keeping them on the board is a good idea. Additionally, trading Queens puts Black's Bishop back in the game, where it could potentially sacrifice itself on g8 to stop the pawn.

I'm not sure how I was playing hope chess as f6 is doubly guarded by my queen and my bishop on d2.

I agree with you that there is very little counter play after your analysis. After mine however, there is literally none. If he does not choose to immediately take his bishop out of play to block the pawn I can sac some material in a tactic to obstruct with 36. Re6, Bxe6 37 Nxe6, Kxe6 38 Pg8. If he chooses to block then he effectively takes his only minor piece out of play. If he sacs his bishop, fine what does he have left to prevent me cleaning off the rest of his pawns and promoting one of my others? Seems pretty uncomplicated.

None of this is hope, it's reasoning and logic.

Thanks for the thoughts!

No problem Checkmate1012. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice analysis Mikeplotch7. That's very instructive. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind in the future.
