But if it does have a king like mine does, then it's impossible to have no royal?
Game with no royals?

But if it does have a king like mine does, then it's impossible to have no royal?
if it is 8x8 (or any size smaller than 10x10 i think) you can simply set a royal in the wall and make it so stalemate loses
something like this

How would that affect castling?
actually i dont think you could castle there
try dming a cga
i havent messed with this stuff in months

It’s a variant I came up with, called Ahab Chess. The rules are in this thread:
https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/ahab-chess
Someone else independently came up with a very similar idea, so we’re working together to join them, so some of the rules will possibly change, but the requirements for testing are the same.

castle-ing is directly tied to royals, not the king piece. so you cant enable castling without a royal piece.

i've had similar issues as you, first I wanted to make monster chess available which involved white having very few pieces but getting to make an extra move per turn. I also faced this issue with veto chess, where you can choose a move that your opponent cannot play. I wish there was a way to add game-rules, it would make certain OTB variants possible online like progressive chess and the aforementioned monster and veto chess.
Hey guys, I'm doing test games for my variant Ahab Chess, and since chess.com doesn't support it yet, I'm having to create workarounds by just PMing notation back and forth with people, and having physical boards set up on either end. I've come up with a few other ways of testing too, but they're all pretty crazy.
I was wondering if there would be a way on the Variants server to have a standard chess board where all the normal rules apply (including castling), but neither player has a royal piece. The only way to win would be by capturing every piece, or by resignation. This would allow me to test my variant easily using the honor system (which I'm already using), and would make things a lot easier. I've tried to find a way to do this, but I couldn't see how. The closest thing I found was Giveaway chess, but that has compulsory capturing, which would not work for testing.
Is this possible to do? If so, how? If not, then that's sad XD
Thanks for your time!
