Thanks chungle. Will be back in here when I finally get some good snips going.
Hopefully - somebody might post some of those snips here before me.
Or a "Jing" - like jdcannon suggested ...
General bug thread UI issues etc

i've been using v3 exclusively these past few days, using the chrome extension to mess around with the colours. I now have grey backgrounds (although it's not uniform) which is still unpleasant to look at, but at least it's not so harsh on the eye.
I'm still hating all the extra clicks and scrolls, still hating the speed issues, which seem to be exacerbated by the extra 'weight' of coloured background.
But can anyone tell me why, after reading to the bottom of a page, when i try to scroll back to the top it stops somewhere in the middle for 3-5 seconds?

Probably to reload that into memory. And I hear you. The constant scrolling and clicking is obnoxious. Great if you only use it once in a while. Terrible if you actually use it all the time.
The whole V3 experience looks good on paper but blows chunks of indigestible wads in practice.
And that again is the crux. If you actually use the site in its entirety then the experience becomes extremely tedious and unpleasant. Yes, for a few minutes here and there it's fine. But try going back and forth back and forth as you hunt the same information over and over day in day out.
Nope. I saw that within five minutes of first clapping my eyes on this.
See, I use (or a least use to use) the site extensively and constantly. I sail in ten or twenty times a day as notifications come at me from various directions and need to be attended to.
If I can't even prioritize which messages to delete or not read? FAIL.
But then, some have no issue with reduced profile pages. Some have no issue with reduced visibility of teams. Some have no issue with the messaging system. Some have no issue with needing to click and scroll.
I ask myself though; do these people with no issues actually use the site to the same extent that I do? What happens when people like me don't come here anymore and put in the time to make the experience a positive one for the general run of the mill members?
Maybe I'm the dinosaur and my time is finished. *sigh*
It's all a bland sameness now.
I'm not clicking that damn bell a hundred times a day to see my notifications. Shove it.

i'm quite sure 99.9% of users use the site less than i do...

...

This is most likely due to your PC/laptop/phone paging IN chunks of memory necessary to render the rest of the page properly. This is yet another instance of why SCROLLING into the ABYSS is ... abysmal design. Another reason why V3 is slower than V2. V2 had proper pagination, cut way down on Page Faults (a technical term which refers to the section of memory needed is no longer IN the cache needed by the CPU to redraw those parts of the page--each time a Page Fault occurs, the CPU must take time to pull the proper Page from RAM back in to CPU Cache where it can be used).
V2 is just a superior UI design.

i've had quite a few alerts telling me that people i follow (such as Sam Copeland) have made a new post... i scroll down to the activity panel, but can't find any new subjects there. i have to go into v2 to see what they are

And V2 sorts the alerts between News, Forum posts, mail/messages, Group Notes, and personal Notes. With V3, it's Chungle's favorite, go to the Alert Bell or Message icon... and start there.
V2 >> V3

I'm going to post the V2 Tactics board here. A snip.
I think this is a good way to start this off on the resizing issue.
Hopefully it will display properly in the forum -
and people will see that the V2 Tactics board has no resize issue.
The Zoom controls have properly expanded the Tactics Board in V2 perfectly.
And the white panel is at the right where its supposed to be.
No need for any board resize buttons in V2. So they don't exist apparently.
In V3 - they're there - but are half-hearted at best - refusing to expand the board.
So you're stuck with a small board and wasted screen space and menu and panel clutter.
Anyway - the V2 board ...

Almost. Unfortunately - the bottom of the screen didn't display properly
in this fullscreen snip. Of an unrated V2 Tactics problem -
So I can't prove to members - with this snip -
that the board - extended properly down to the bottom of my laptop screen.
Where I intentionally used the browser zoom controls
Ctrl button plus mousewheel - to intentionally cut off the bottom of the forward-back buttons.
Chess.com would do better - to have V3 Tactics boards mimic their
V3 "Set Focus" Board in Live Chess. Which has minimal clutter.
And responds to Zoom much better than V3 Tactics Boards -
although its still somewhat half-hearted when it comes to optimal-maximal enlargement.
As is its dedicated resize button - which is horribly half-hearted in the V3 Tactics problems.
I'm not a programmer - but its seems so illogical to have these shorcomings in V3.
V3 still has considerable bugs. So this side forum is good.
But I think this resize issue deserves its own "side thread". Or whatever that's called.
Going to post this in GeneralChang's side forum too.

Also - reading the new posts before mine - in this new thread -
suggests that V3 is causing my sound problem too. Which starts after about 20 minutes.
I don't want to have to go back to using V2 to verify that though!

looking at the ongoing games of another user, i see this...
How do i go about seeing a simple list without boards?

lol, yeah, i know... that was my default setting in v2...
i'm sure there'll be a scroll or series of mouse clicks to get where i want to go...
All right. Let's get this party started. woohoo. yay.
