I have that book too.I have amatuers mind by Jeremy Silman .I like his books lots of good material and easy to understand the concepts .

Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess. Although the different layout takes a bit of learning, once I had the method down pat, I found it a great source of info on basic chess. 

I haven't completed reading these books thus far, but I liked reading Learn Chess and Understanding Chess Move by Move by GM John Nunn.
