Maybe we can play some time, theweaponking! Here's my only Grob from last night - and a while since I'd felt inclined to use it! My opponent fell right into a hole.
Got to Love the Grob
Not bad, although Qxa8+ on that last move picks up yet another piece before the queen trade. And sure, I don't mind playing you!
Nice examples!
I'm a chess amateur at that moment and just starting learning opening theory but i'm eager to master the Grob and Sokolsky(thePolish) someday. When i was a teen i saw a book at my schoolmate's father's home library "Grob's attack - coffin for Black"( the word "grob" means "coffin" in Russian
) - stilll searching for it.
The Grob makes for some interesting games for sure. I'm not a fan of the gambit version since I question its soundness, but whatever works for you. It can get especially tricky when the opponent goes for a quick kingside crush and ties their own pieces in knots. Same goes for its black counterpart, the Borg.
Ah yeah, how could I miss that free rook!! Oh well, At least I got away with it :)
Not a fan of the Borg myself, just because black is already a move down. But sometimes I play the non-gambit, although I prefer the gambit version by far!
Heh. I've got a few more now from last night in live chess, as well as a new trove of 1. f3 and 1...f6 games fresh from tonight! Maybe I'll post them when I'm done playing.
Grob is my stock standard opening as white . 1900 over the board in a tourney game is so far my biggest scalp with it. Hopeful more the in the future.
after i sleep ill try to dig it out for you as i am yet to sleep and it was 3-4 yrs ago at least. Might take some digging
Me(Well under 1600) Vs Not to be named Newcastle player(1900) many years ago over the board in the Newcastle District Champs.
Good game! It all fell apart for your opponent in the end :) I'll see what the highest win from my games is, I haven't played the Grob in a long time admittedly, so we'll see what it is :)
How do you sort through your games easily? I remember that there used to be the option to go into the games archive and click on opponents' rating, and it would order your games by this quality. They've gotten rid of this? A shame.
Today, I played the last round of a tournament in my university. All the other games had finished - the tournament format was a strange one, where I'd tied 1-1 with my opponent, so then we played 4 more games to decide the winner, again tied 2-2. The last game was set so that black needed only to draw to win, but played with 4 minutes, and I played white, with 5 minutes.
I had the last game, everyone had gathered around to watch - perfect time to play the Grob. And it worked! Unfortunately I don't remember the game well enough to post it here though! :(
Blitz chess with the Grob Opening makes for some very fun games. These are my two best wins with it in live chess last night. The first one features an epic king march!
