Hello, I would expect that most members here lean towards the pure side.
Greetings!
I am graduating in a month with my B.S. in mathematics (secondary ed.)
abstract algebra was favorite class
I'm a wanderer - self educated for the most part with little formal training in math. I'm going back to college over the winter and math will be a strong focus of mine. If I ask lots of questions that seem to have obvious answers to any of you please be forgiving. Thanks.
Hello, I'm getting an award tonight for winning the All Ireland Junior Maths Competition with a perfect score. I've always loved maths and been good at it.
My name is Trevor. I am finishing up Calculus II and have always loved math. I plan on taking math as far as I can in college and researching it when I graduate, probably as a math professor. I've also been keeping track of how much time I've devoted to calculus level and beyond math. I'm at around 175 hours so far and my goal is to reach 10000 hours.
I usually decline group invites without second thought, but I'm glad I read the invite for this one. I love math! It would be great to build up this math/chess community, and I am suggesting posts in this thread about our relationship with math. Do you work as a mathematician, or in a math-related field? Is math just a great hobby and interest of yours? What areas or aspects of math appeal to you? Or are you currently a student studying math?
I'm Victor, and I'm currently studying math, working on my Ph.D. My focus is discrete mathematics, which is graph theory and combinatorics for those who know those areas, and is basically fancy counting and picture drawing for those who aren't familiar :) I also am a fan of probability. I tend to favor the pure side of math, and deal less with applications. I look forward to meeting everyone here!
