Hi, I've been trying to add the last version of Stockfish to the engines list in scid vs. PC 4.22 but I get this error when I run it.

I've used the file stockfish_14.1_win_x64_popcnt from https://stockfishchess.org/download/ which is said to be more compatible, but with the "faster version" I get the same error. actually I suspect it might have to do with where are located the installation files.

Here is the window of the Engine settings as currently set up.

Is there any suggestion to be made on what direction I might try to learn how to set up the engine properly, which I assume is the cause of my problem?

Can you directly launch the engine file without it crashing?

yes, I've tried from the CMD running stockfish_14.1_win_x64_popcnt.exe and it's responsive, although I didn't reach an instance of "real evaluation" with the engine, maybe if it's enough for your judgement to know that it replied to my input. (I just tried a couple random commands I've found in Google)

UPDATE:

after your question I've watched a video where the commands shown have been executed, and I mi mimicked them. My output is in the attached image.

After the "GO" command, the program exits and goes back to the command line. It seems to me that this isn't the right outcome. So back to your question, I believe the problem happens even before the GUI is involved.

Problem solved!

The version of the program that works correctly for my computer is: stockfish_14.1_win_x64

Thanks Martin_Stahl, just the idea of trying directly the engine led to testing with the same command line mindset the other version, which does give the right output, and works fine with my Scid vs PC.
