Yup, soccer. The comparisons that are made in the book are between famous Soccer Coaches and famous Chess Players... though without a background in soccer I don't know how much can be taken from it.
Helipacter's Training Journal

Well, I've not updated this in ages, so here we go:
I think that my rating has popped up by 200 or so since joining this group. So my plan in working out!!!!
Positives: i) My calculating work is getting better - now I don't lose as many exchanges because I actually think about what I do, which wasn't the case before :-( ii) I've learned the theory to 4 or 5 openings, I think it helps, though I won't obsess over it. iii) I analyse every game of mine with SCID - so this helps rooting out defects. iv) Through regular tactics and puzzles I'm now able to find weak spots in my opponent's position and take advantage.
Negatives: i) I need to play more games! I only play team matches and games against friends... I need to set up more open challenges. ii) Endgame technique now needs work - I know a bit, but I could always know a bit more... iii) Need to read more chess books - Silman's Amateur's Mind is going to be my next one. They're sooooo fricken expensive though! iv) I must play more blitz games! Correspondence I'm quite happy with, but using Fritz, on my Nintendo DS, my rating is sub 1000, purely because I can't get to grips with time controls and I panic when I really shouldn't. I've installed BABAS onto my laptop, so we'll see what happens there...
Well, that's my latest update, hopefully the next couple won't be so tardy ;-)
Thanks for reading...
That sounds like an interesting book, but please forgive my american ignorance we are talking about soccer?
