Help! My Puzzle Elo Dropped from 3000+ to 1700 😱
At first you should check if you reading api requests correctly, this kind of rating loss might suggest you're just not looking at your puzzle at all.
Second thing to check - what kind of chess engine are you use. Are you sure you didn't change it, by mistake? For instance, to some fancy little ai heuristic? This kind of guessing might work very well in practical game against humans, but will not work on tactics, where only the best move counts. Debugging this one is a special kind of hell, if you forget about it.
Finely, be sure to give the engine enough time to analyze the position, because it might make fast "intuitive"judgments, missing important details. If I had to make an educated guess here - I put money on that one.
Good luck with your project, I hope you find the source of your problems and overcome them soon!
Engine? You do know that it is not allowed to use an engine for anything on C.C other than for analysis AFTER the event?
there is even a computer championship, if you develop your own engine, integration with C.C sounds like a good, useful, but tiny little feature of your project. You don't need to use it in, rated games, or against unwilling to do this people. Maya project, for example.
But to be entirely honest with you, this was mostly a joke about people missing a point of this forum
But for learning experince, are you sure, you are not allowed to solve puzzles on dedicated developer account? This was not a thing when I read rulebook, but it was a while ago.
From the Fair play policy (Puzzles have a rating)
- Do not artificially manipulate ratings, matches, or game outcomes.

Use of engines against other members is expressly prohibited
Yes. I just didn't know puzzle solving is ranked. Lesson learned, and I will remember that in the future. Yet at the very same time - isn't that mean solving puzzles on marked (unranked) developer account, it's perfectly ok? Also are you aware C.C is providing exceptions for this rulebook for many different reasons?
A little private story: I was developing a feature for handicapped people, and the only solution that I saw and was sensible, technically speaking, would be breaking a fair play policy, as any extension reading/modifying site state during game was prohibited at this time. I was not discouraged, I wrote mail to support, and after a short email exchange I got a green flag.
So I try to not playing judge and If someone is talking about losing rating on developer forum - I'm going to share my knowledge, and hope he knows what he's doing. Just because I give same trust to anti-cheating department at C.C
And If you smell fish just because I got this knowledge - I studied computer science, general game playing was my faculty. I'm not even develop anything connected with chess right now, nor in last 2 years or so. You can sleep safely ![]()
Hi everyone,
I recently noticed that my puzzle Elo dropped dramatically—from over 3000 to around 1700! I’ve been doing puzzles regularly in the past, but I haven’t solved many in a while. I’m wondering:
---Can a long break from puzzles cause such a big drop?
---Are there other factors that could affect puzzle ratings?
I’d really appreciate any insights or advice. Thanks in advance!
