Homework!

How much work/study material would your ideal course/instructor give you? an hour per day? an hour per week? 2 hours per day? half an hour per day?

How much do you currently study?

You'll be much better off spending all your study time on the suggestions of an IM/GM coach. But to design our courses, we need to know how much study material should go into our curricula.

Thanks in advance for your input!

blueangel56

Well, right now, I do about 1-2 hours a day of study

dpruess

great, thanks.

Hammers

three hrs a week would be agood amount

ArchBadger

Maybe 45 min/day if it requires a computer, 1 1/2 hours if not.

deepOzzzie

Hey, I would say between an half an hour to an hour every couple of days, so no more then 3 hours a week.

Kacparov

3 or 4 hours daily is fine. on holidays, 5 or 6 hours ;)

Eniamar

I study ~1 hour a day at chess...but I study ~13 hours a day of other work, so I don't much care.

I'd say 45-90 minutes a day is a pretty good compromise over time versus results.

Thanks for you work on this. I do think "homework" is a great idea!

Many of us who enjoy chess and want to get better are not always so naturally motivated as those players who seemingly could spend 4 hours a day or more studying. For us a little extra pressure would be very helpful. Also a more standard training regimen would help me be more strategic (I get distracted easily).

In answer to your question I spend around an hour or so a day or so doing tactics trainer, watching videos, and reading articles. I spend another 15-30 minutes making moves in my online games. I'm not sure that would all qualify as "homework" and I'm not sure such activities are all that beneficial to my game but that's what it is for now.

Let me know if you need any beta testing or other help!

I do an hour a day or more.  For a course 3-6 hours / week would be good.  Maybe more, online chess games might have to suffer

proKnight98

I study 2 hours on weekdays with chess, one hour on the weekends.

You also have to think about a members school studies, if they have any.

keeeganomahoneey

I would say about 2-3 hours a week, I do a lot now in the holidays but once school goes back many people won't have as much time, especially if they have big exams

Constantine73

No more than 2 hrs/day or 5-7 hrs per week

I've no idea what the correct amount of homework a tutor should give is? All I know is I spend perhaps an hour or more, all added up, at chess related stuff. However, I think very little of it could be classified as study :) I'm hoping for some direction and would work better under pressure, I think..
Vek_The_Gambiteer

I wouldn't go above 2 hours a day - It's useful I'm sure, but some of us have lives that interfere with our chess study! Tongue out

dpruess

all good feedback, folks. thanks to everyone!

Have seperate courses, give begginers half an hour a day, hobby/club players 1 hour a day, and experts a lot more, something like that...
