How Can I Make A Puzzle?

Recently, I've been thinking of making my own puzzles since getting them from games I play is hard but I don't know how to do it. Does anyone have any advice on creating puzzles? Then, I could make fun and engaging puzzles happy.png

BTW, When I say "How to make a puzzle", I mean concept.

Ok, but I want to know how to make a concept of a puzzle, like how chess.com does with their daily ones.

There are people the world over who make chess puzzles as a hobby. There are even clubs for this. I'm not a puzzle-maker, but Google around, and look through the clubs here, and you may find help.

Just remember that a good puzzle has either a) one solution only, or b) a best, fastest solution (that is, if a mate in 5 and a mate in 3 are possible, the mate in 3 is the solution.)

Good luck, and have fun!

On chess.com, every puzzle has exactly one solution. There is only one good move in every position.

I recently started making puzzles. Just jumped right in and tried, no guidance no nothing. Maybe I should check out some of those clubs mentioned here.
What I do is I'll have an idea, usually a mate or tactical pattern, in mind.
Let's say a mate in 3 for example, I set up the bare bones, then I build up a game like situation around it cause I want the position to have a natural feel. Then I try to think of obstacles so you have to make 1 or 2 forcing moves before the mate can be executed, making the puzzle harder. And finally, if at all possible, I try to ensure the losing side has counterthreats.
All the while keeping material balanced or the winning side with a material deficit.
And make sure to check with an engine cause sometimes even adding a seemingly useless pawn can make a world of difference for reasons you don't even understand, ruining your entire effort.
Good luck and have fun.

Only staff do this but there are clubs but commonly You can't do it

@Arpit-Dhangar: Please stop telling him he can't do it. Anyone can make a puzzle and post it in the puzzle forum or in a forum thread of their own. If you think your puzzle is good enough, you can even submit it to the staff for consideration.

@ChessKy538: The man who posted above here (JohanVA) makes cool puzzles. Try following his advice. I asked him to post here.

You can check out this article to learn how to add and create puzzles in your forum post. https://support.chess.com/article/316-how-do-i-put-a-game-or-puzzle-in-a-forum You can add puzzles in your blogs, forum posts and as comments.

For concepts, you can try to look at some common checkmate patterns like the fool's mate, back rank etc., and create puzzles that somehow end in any of these Checkmating patterns. Check out this Chess.com Lesson to see common checkmate pattern. https://www.chess.com/lessons/how-to-checkmate

You can also also consider tactical patterns; something like at the end of the line, you have a knight fork, skewer, pin or what have you that wins material or maintain decisive material advantage.

Checkout your games and games of other users, you will likely find amazing positions to use in your puzzles.

You should also check out clubs that are interested in creating puzzles. You may find one that would be helpful to you.
