How did you learn to play chess? What do you do now to improve your play?

I learned as a kid a bit but didn't actually study until Covid. I play chess with my highschool students daily. I play on chess.com daily matches (7day) a lot and I try to do tactics puzzles daily. End game is what I want to put more study time into now. There are more things down that rabbit hole for me now.

I've been using chessable a lot to help with my tactics, openings, and rook endgames 

My dad taught me to play when I was a kid. I picked it up again about 10 years ago, took a long break and again about two years ago. I've been working through puzzles and lessons here on chess.com, watch youtube videos, and just signed up for chessable.  Discussing alternative moves in vote chess matches has also been  interesting and helpful.

i dont know how i learned i dont remember.  i played in high school in the chess club then i stopped until about a year ago and just started up again.

I've loved playing since I was seven when my Father taught the rules.

I began seriously studying offbeat openings in my sophmore year; my performance plateaud at just below competitive for about a decade afterwards. 

It's wasn't until a couple years ago I purchased Silman's Complete Endgame Course and The Woodpecker Method (for intensive tactics study) that my performance improved. For an efficient study of my openings, YouTube channel, Hanging Pawns, has been instrumental in solidifying my opening repertoire.

Currently I aim for 15 online puzzles in a sitting (5 free on chess.com and 10 on Lichess.org) taking the time to solve 80% correct.  

My future goal is to use my recent purchase of How to Study Chess on Your Own by Davorin Kuljasevic to create a more formal study plan - if I can just find the time.
