can white win?

White can win. If black avoids obvious mates, white can force this position, or a similar one but with the black king on B8 instead of A8.

I don't see a forced win by white, black king has to make a blunder, if white continues to check, & black king works a7, a8, & b8 correctly the game will end in a draw.

Try to see how white will force mate from the position I posted, then how white can force that position. There are a lot of possibilities, but it works.

That would be blacks blunder:  1. Qf4+, Ka8  2.Qf8+, Ka7 3. Qg7+, and from here it doesn't matter where black king moves, next move is mate. But if Black king moves to a7 on the first check and with the rook's position, the chase is on, black could stretch that for 50 moves and a draw. Unless there's something I'm missing, but I played it out on the board for abuot 30 min.

I put in some alternate moves for black in the Move/List. The trick is to keep the black king in check, and get the queen on the a-file while avoiding Qa4+, Ra7.

It took me about an hour to figure all this out, and even then I'd put the queen on a4 ond later realized black would win with Ra7. If this is from an actual game, I'd like to know who played.

this position was likely made up since it comes from an endgame cd. you are correct that it can be won, and here's the solution.
