If anyone has some more openings as black to suggest, or other recommendations, I'd appreciate it. thanks
How far can I get by just playing live games?

playing on its own can help improve your grade, but it is recommended that playing through master games by great players will help you in a big way. Just pushing the pieces of a Capablanca game is not sufficient...you need to pause at each move and analyse the board as if you were playing and come up with your next move, then check it against the actual game. Puzzle solving on a regular basis will sharpen your eye also.
Good luck!
I've been playing chess for a little over 4 months now, moved from 800 ELO to ~1100 ELO, and I think I'd like to play chess as a lifelong hobby. The only way I've been improving is just by playing live chess games one after the other.
Should I be reading a chess book, learning more openings, or doing puzzles instead? I've only learned English opening as white, and as black; Sicilian(vs e4) or Indian defenses (vs d4).
Or should I just keep trucking on and playing chess games.
My goal would be to get to 1500-1600 player, then see what I'd like from there.
