How many of you are familure with the bongcloud

First of all, I'm new to the group. Hello everyone.

The bongcloud is probably the most unorthodox of all chess lines, but very interesting.

1.e4 e5

2.Ke2

Yes, the K stands for king, not knight. Bongcloud can be loosely used to define any opening that activates the king in the first few moves, the theory being 16 attacking peices are better than 15.

What is this groups opinon on this opening as far as using it succesfully in play goes?

Hello and welcome to the group Sgt. Pepper!

I've heard of the Bongcloud opening but have never tried it. (I must say that as far as unorthodox goes, the bongcloud definitely number one place).

I'm gonna try this opening open in some Live chess quick (one minute) games and post em' here.

I wonder, has this opening been played in any games between grandmasters?

D_Plew

seems like a very silly idea. You've just freed your bishop and queen by moving the pawn, and then you trap them again while putting your king in danger?

D_Plew

you also immediately lose any hope of chance to castling

I'm white in the first game and last game, and black in the second game.

Whaddaya think? Opponent levels between 1350-1500.

I think we need to experiment more with bringing the king out maybe on the 6th or 10th move rather than the 2nd.

And perhaps maybe only in closed positions. And only -only- in quick/blitz games Tongue out

I think It's worth only shock value.

Ah the boungcloud.  Check out this thread:

http://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/1e4-e5-2ke2?page=2

The long post by RC_Woods on the second page is classic, especially commentary in the example games.

Seriously though, this is a terrible opening.  White immediately thwarts the development potential accomplished by his first move with his second move?  Any decent player would take advantage of the tempo gained by black and build a huge lead in development.

The bongcloud isn't any good, and it's not named or found in the chess.com database.

that's it's only strength. If you figured out the most common responses and knew before hand the best ways to respond to them, the surprise might work. I think if you studied the bongcloud extensively, or any other opening in all of chess, you can use it to a some degree of success.

Mr3O

accually have been fond of this opening for a long time, rich stop using hogwash in upper case red letters without explaining your reasoning thats why i feel it disrespects some people in this group but to truth i would like to challenge you or anyone to a game with that opening

rrrttt

Bring it. I'm black

Ha, that opening may come up in the Gedult's Opening team match game. Tongue out

that fried fox pork chop handicaps the knight, but does give the opponnet many possibly attacks to worry about. I guess that's why they call it the fried fox pork chop, isn't it.

Conquistador

Actually it is playable, but you have to follow the fortress variation, which I developed.

Here's a trap in the Bongcloud:
