How old were you when you learnt chess?

How old were you when you learnt chess?! What do you think is the right age to start? Fill all your thoughts over here!

I learnt when I was 6, but kept on stopping! :( I only took it seriously 3 years back!

I was about 3.5....I used to play everyday for about a year with my father. Then stopped for some time.

I was 5 or 6 when I first learned the rules, but I hadn't played in years until March this year (I'm 16 now), when I joined this site and first learned the names of openings and things like skewers, pins, forks etc. I'm pretty happy with how I've improved since then.

5 years old, started tournament play when I was 6.

i was 4, but only started playing at 11, and am 13 now

I was about six. I didn't really start playing until about four years ago. But it's been an off and on thing during these four years.
