Just a headsup, the site is not designed with mobile in mind. If you are on mobile, set yourself to be horizontal view.
The site features a main lobby where people can start games, and join games, and challenge other users to play against them. Each game room can go up to a maximum of 8 players (including bots). The Host is responsible for choosing the size of the board, and adding any bots. When the host is ready to start the game, they will click the Start Game Button.
Then the game will enter the setup phases: 1) Players take turn placing their fortress. 2) Players take turns placing their king. 3) Players are given some gold to purchase their starting army. Other players will not be visible during this step. They will click 'Ready' once they have selected their army and are ready to begin. 4) When all players are ready, the game will officially begin.
At the start of a players turn, they will get one gold. The player can choose to move, capture, or spawn pieces.
The fortress acts as a stationary objective to defend, as it is the primary location of piece spawning, and if it is threatened, the player does not generate gold.
There are two ways to put opponents in check. You may attack their king as you would in ordinary chess, or by attacking their fortress with three pieces simultaneously. If either condition cannot be resolved, then it is checkmate. If a player is in check, they are not allowed to spawn any pieces either.
There are several variant pieces that have been added to the game, so take some time to learn how they move. (You can hover over the icon in the spawn menu to learn their description).
A key to winning is to break your opponents gold reserve, so targeting their fortress is vital to turning the tides of battle in your favor, inversely defending yours is critical as well.
