How to survive in 2 vs 1

People here complains a lot about "not cooperating 'friend' (opposite player) in FFA" and "passive (stupid) random teammate in Teams Mode".  A question arises: How long can a player withstand alone versus 2 enemies? It is obvious that 2 players teamed up against a 3rd player will mate him sooner or later (or capture his king). But how many moves do they need?

Task 1.

Teams Mode. Red and Yellow attack Blue together and ignore Green (even if they can checkmate Green in 1 move). Green makes only passive moves (moving his knight Nn5-l6 and then back Nl6-n5). How many moves can Blue withstand?

Task 2.

FFA Mode. Red and Yellow attack Blue together and ignore Green (even if they can checkmate Green in 1 move). Green makes only passive moves (moving his knight Nn5-l6 and then back Nl6-n5). How many moves can Blue withstand?

The Task 1 is obviously more simple, because we do not consider points.

As a start we can consider the following game:

1. h2-h3 .. b7-c7 .. g13-g12 .. Nn5-l6
2. Qg1-j4 .. Qa7-b7 .. Qh14-e11 .. Nl6-n5
3. Qj4-g4 .. Na10-c9 .. Qe11xNc9 .. Nn5-l6
4. Qg4xb9 .. Ka8-a7 .. Qc9xb8 .. Nl6-n5
5. Qb9-a8

It is obvious that the 3rd Blue move is wrong. What move is better? Can he withstand much longer than 5 moves? Maybe he should change the 2nd move too? And also the 1st one?

@JustinD1986, I agree with almost all you said, but:

Why do your enemies (left and right players) choose to attack you first instead of attacking your frienemy (opposite player)? There should be a reason. Right? Perhaps they see that your position is weaker then frienemy's one? If yes, you should make some moves to look stronger. This is (one of the reasons) why I created this topic: to find stronger (more solid) opening moves.

For example, in that particular video: why did red and yellow attack green instead of blue? Is it just a random choice?

Ok, back to the game:

Playing for Blue we can place something (a pawn for example) to the Yellow or Red queen path, or move the king on the 3rd move. So, instead of Na10-c9 we can do:

b10-d10

b8-c8

c7-d7

Ka8-a7

These 3 moves seems to be better than Na10-c9. Now we should consider Yellow and Red answer to these moves.

P.S.

The following 3 moves allow to check the king, so they are bad:

Qb7-c8

b9-c9

b9-d9

BabYagun

After 3. .. b10-d10 Blue is going to be checkmated on 6th move. For example:

2. Qg1-j4 .. Qa7-b7 .. Qh14-e11 .. Nl6-n5
3. Qj4-g4 .. b10-d10 .. Qe11-e12 .. Nn5-l6
4. Qg4xb9 .. Ka8-a7 .. Qe12-e10 .. Nl6-n5
5. Qb9xBa9 .. Qb7-a8 .. Qe10xBa6 .. Nn5-l6
6. Qa9xQa8

After 3. .. b8-c8 Blue can withstand longer. In the following example he is checkmated on 6th move, but there are better moves than 4. .. Ba9xBc7, so the game will last longer.

If Blue does not take red bishop on 4th move and plays 4. .. b11-d11 instead, the game will have at least 7 moves:

@giusbold, you offer a good idea to protect the weakest pawn b9 with a bishop (2. .. Ba6-c8).

However, Yellow can change his first moves to g13-g11 (instead of g13-g12) and later h13-h12 to attack blue bishop with yellow bishop.

Which iswhy FFA is a flawed game ( unless all players are intelligent which rarley happens) and why you need to get s subcription and choose your partner in team.
