How to visualize and predict moves in your game?

Here at chess.com, when you are involved in a complicated game, it's difficult to visualize the game, so one way I do it is by doing the following steps to test my moves before making the actual move inside the game:

1- in your game, click the "moves" button (the second tab)

2- copy the FEN.

3- Then, go to one of the teams forums section, or messages,  and start in the process of submitting a new message, this is only done to get access to the "insert position or game" button, which is located right above the text box for the message body, it has this brownie chess board look.

4- after you click on it, select the second option "Game or sequence of moves" then click continue.

5- then select the second option in the "How would you like to begin" window and paste the FEN you had in step 2

6- Continue, it will show you the board with the moves, you can click "Flip Board" if you are Black.

7- make your moves, and restart the process to reset your position.

Once you made your mind on a certain move, close this message / board, and go back to your game and submit your move.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it like using a chess software, your feedback will help a lot, show me how you do it!!!
