If you're feeling the same frustration as me, where you want to attend a USCF tournament, but you simply can't because of the COVID-19 situation, or just that your parents won't let you, then the American Junior Chess Association is a great option. It's a new and fresh club looking to thrive and expand. We are a group of kids-teenagers-adults who will constantly attend tournaments, recieve ratings and rankings, and have our own little league. The club was created by Benticilian, and we are looking to host a tournament soon on monday. Click on the link to find out more information:here

and if that link does not work, click here: https://www.chess.com/club/notes/american-junior-chess-association

No USCF has online tournaments on chess.com you just need to apply and join a club!

"...where you want to attend a USCF tournament, but you simply can't because of the COVID-19 situation, or just that your parents won't let you,"

Whoa is me, your parent won't let you?!? Life is more than chess. If YOU can't afford to pay the entry fees etc., then they have a right not to pay them for you. I have paid my own fees etc., since I was 18 which was 50 year ago.  Right NOW there should be NO OTB tournaments PERIOD!! I'm so very, very sorry if this puts a crimp in your chess playing career. May I make an alternative suggestion: GO TO SCHOOL, even if it is on line and STUDY something other than chess that will make you a productive member of society.

If you really have to get your "chess fix", then there are plenty of online tournaments you can plan in. I am truly sorry if I appear unsympathetic, but you sound like a spoiled brat with this post. Grow up!! There is a Global Pandemic going on and thousands of people are dying each and every day, and here you are whining that your mommy and daddy won't let you go to a chess tournament.. even if there was one around. Things take priority over chess, and the sooner you learn that lesson the better!!

@azbobcat I would like to disagree with every single thing you said. First off, the club is for people under 20. Oh wait Im sorry, is my 8 yr old sister supposed to pay the fee for the tournaments? Aw man I forgot! But of course! Everyone should listen to your advice, quit chess, an go to school. Stop influencing others to quite chess. I do go to school, going to 8th grade actually, and am active in academic competitions. Stop judging people without knowing anything about them. Most people like me are studying chess because it is a fun hobby where they can socialize,  and put there minds to use. AND here you are, telling everyone to quit chess? My parents wont let me join USCF because they think chess is a waste of time. In conclusion, STOP JUDGING PEOPLE WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. Second off, STOP INFLUENCING PEOPLE TO QUIT CHESS. Third off, I think many kids do have the right to "whine" about not getting to attend tournaments. You clearly never felt that painbecause you being the spoiled brat you are were always allowed to go to tournaments. Many kids who have talent and potential are forced to quite chess and not attend tournaments because there parents think chess is a waste of time (just like you do). In all honesty though, please don't make comments like what you did, where you basically influence kids to quit chess, and then assume everyone who can't go to tournaments is a spoiled brat. Money isn't always the issue. With parents who have never played chess, they simply think its a pointless game of moving pieces of plastic around the board. That's why I can't attend tournaments, and why Im trying to advertise for the club. If you can't stand it, there is no need for you to call us spoiled brats. Also, i don't believe ur a 68 yr old. "I was 18 which was 50 year ago". That would mean your 68 yrs old. The way you talk, judge, and influence makes you sound like a 13 yr old. Shame on you.

I hate school nowadays because you’ve got to get tested. Also does AJCA charge money? I will join if it doesn’t.

Tested like 4-8 times a day

Thats awesome! No, the AJCA is completely free! However, we are not allowing any people like azbobcat who try and tell people to quit chess.

Sorry you are the 13 year old. And my point stands: if you YOU can't PAY the tournament fees YOU don't PLAY in the tournament. If Mommy and Daddy must pay your fees you are by definition a SPOILED BRAT!! I paid my way to EVERY tournament I've ever been in starting at the age of 16. And No I actually DO understand you quite well: My mother also thought chess was a waste of time, but as long as *I* paid the fees neither my father nor mother really cared what I did with *MY* money -- so long as I stayed out of trouble. At 18 there was this thing called Viet Nam -- you might have heard of it.That was back in the days of the Draft, and I had a low lottery number, so I enlisted. Why?? Because *if* I came home ALIVE I could put myself through COLLEGE on the G.I. Bill -- my parents did not pay 1 cent of my College Education; nor 1 cent for my Masters Degree; nor a single cent for my Doctoral Degree. I paid for my entire post- High School Education, "Mommy and Daddy" did not help me. I also stepped away from chess sometimes for YEARS because I had to set PRIORITIES. Ches simply became a LOW PRIORITY.

Do I think YOU are too young to be playing in USCF tournaments?  Unless you are a chess prodigy the answer is YES!  ...and your 8 year old sister? Definitely YES!! Ah!! But I forgot Mommy and Daddy shell out all their money to indulge their SPOILED CHILDREN!! By the way you are very, very WRONG: I don't want you, or any kid for that matter, to "quit chess". But do I think you are qualified to play in USCF tournaments?!?  The answer is NO!! Simply put you are not MATURE ENOUGH to play in tournaments. And you proved it with your silly post: If you pull your head out of your rectum and look at what is happening around you, then you might see WHY I said you are WHINING: People all around you are DYING; SICK and STRUGGLING to BREATH; UNEMPLOYMENT is at a RECORD HIGH; people are being EVICTED FROM THEIR HOMES; HARD WORKING PEOPLE CAN'T FIND WORK; PEOPLE ARE PUTTING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE EVERY DAY EITHER TREATING THE SICK AND DYING, or by PROVIDING ESSENTIAL SERVICES; RESEARCHERS ARE WORKING ROUND THE CLOCK to come up with a VACCINE or some THERAPEUTIC/S to TREAT the disease.

Then along comes some sniveling little SPOILED BRAT who posts what amounts to, "Mommy and Daddy, I am so BORED because there are NO USCF (CHESS) TOURNAMENTS I can play in". If you can't understand why someone might call you out for WHINING then you are so out of touch with REALITY. And God forbid that someone in your household, or family comes down with CoViD19 and either end up in the hospital or dying from the disease, then you will learn a very, very, hard lesson I'd wish on no one -- including YOU!!

Maybe I should not have jumped all over you, but the combination of your WHINING that you are BORED and can't play in any USCF Tournaments (Boo Hoo!!), and even if there were a tournament your Mommy and Daddy would not allow you to go,  in the middle of a Global Pandemic where in the US alone there that been over 5,531,282 total cases, and over 172,630 DEATHS!!

If you are BORED, may I suggest that you pick up a BOOK and READ it. Reading can both be FUN, as well as EDUCATIONAL. I'm currently reading 4 books at the same time: Furmidable Foes: A Mrs Murphy Mystery by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown (2020); The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World out of Balance by Laurie Garrett (1994); The Hot Zone by Richard Preston (1994); Crisis in the Red Zone: The Story of the Deadliest Ebola Outbreak in History, and of Outbreaks to Come by Richard Preston (2019). That does not include all my technical reading that I do every day.

If YOU were a/the founder of the AJCA, my hat is off to you; likewise you should be complemented for spreading the word about the AJCA . But your rather self indulgent WHINING about that there are no USCF Tournaments and that you are BORED, and even IF there were a tournament, "Mommy and Daddy" wouldn't let you go". Maybe the REASON your parents would not let you go to a tournament may have NOTHING to do with you rather immature supposition, and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that they LOVE YOU, and don't want you to go out possibly contracting the virus and and bringing it home, then possibly spreading to them, or -- if you have an elderly grandparent living with your family -- to your grandparent. Your immaturity, selfishness, thoughtlessness comes through in your post.  Did that idea ever cross your tiny little mind?

I am not sure what annoys me more when I read posts such as yours: Your Whining; Your sense of entitlement of being allowed to play in a USCF Tournament; Your Immaturity -- no ADULT wants to sit across the table from some Snot Nosed Brat; and as far as I am concerned that you have not EARNED the right to Play in such a Tournament -- you sure have not PAID your DUES, either monetarily  -- Mommy and Daddy do that for you -- or as a chess player. If it were up to me no one under the age of 18 would be allowed to play in a USCF Tournament -- 16 with a Sponsor, and you would pay a FULL ADULT MEMBERSHIP DUES. But to post this drivel in the middle of a bloody Pandemic where ADULTS are sacrificing so much, and others facing so many hardships, and hear you WHINE about there being no USCF Tournaments, and if there were your Mommy and Daddy would not allow you to attend, that was the straw the broke the camel's back. You EARNED my wrath with your brain dead post. I'll say it again: YOU NEED TO GROW UP, and the sooner the better.

There is not a damn thing you can tell me. I played in my first tournament at Age 16 , played in my first USCF tournament at 18 when I was in the Army (something YOU will never do, because you think you are "entitled" -- let other people shed their blood to defend you), and BTW I Paid a FULL ADULT membership dues -- none of this reduced dues you pay.  You had to be at least 18 to join the USCF unless an ADULT sponsored you. I played in the 29th World Chess Olympiad that was held in Novi Sad Yugoslavia, 1990 which was a unique honor -- actually got to say hello to the Polgar Sisters while I was there. And when it comes to talking about diseases I actually *know*  what I am talking about: my Ph.D. is in Environmental Microbiology and Immunology. This is a highly, HIGHLY, CONTAGIOUS DISEASE that is very easily spread:

1.Unless you absolutely need to, STAY HOME!!

2. IF you NEED to go out WEAR A MASK!!!

3. WASH YOUR HANDS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY!!!

4. If you ARE SICK STAY AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE, CALL 911  and get TESTED!!! The sooner the better.

P.S. Please drop the "Dr"  It sounds pretentious. Another title you have not EARNED the right to use.

haha azbobcat actually i understand what u mean. yeah i just use dr cuz i wanted to become a doctor. not that i actually am one or anything. yeah i get what u mean. but still, you cant call kids spoiled brats if they cant pay for tournaments. look my dude, where would these kids get this money? Where did u get ur money? Most kids DONT GET MONEY, and DONT HAVE MONEY. but im sry, i guess they are spoiled brats according to ur definition. for me, im using money i earned from piano competitions to pay for tournaments. and other than that i understand what ur saying. Great job joining the army, and I respect that. Thank you for your service, and I really mean that. Im sorry if I offended you and came off as a "Snotty nosed brat, Spoiled brat, Whiny, complaining, yeah u get the point". But you are missing a huge point about younger kids. Right now in the chess world, there are tons of talented kids striving to become better at chess. In fact, my old neighbors who were just about 8 yrs old were rated 1632. Top 20 in the nation. What Im trying to say is that you cant just call these kids spoiled brats. If their parents weren't with them, they wouldnt be able to attend tournamnets, pay for coaches, and enter the world of chess. But one more thing. What you say about COVID-19. That is something I completely agree with. Covid-19 is dangerous, but dont start assuming that I ignore it. A good family friend of mine got covid-19, with a child who was only 6 suffering in the hospital. My entire family cooked, and sent letters and toys to help them. So to put it this way: I'm sorry for angering you, and Im sorry for sounding like a brat in 100 different ways. I agree with many of your points. Just please don't be so quick to judge. Just because a kid cant pay for a tournmanet doesnt mean they are a spoiled brat. Many kids live in poverty, which is why they cant pay. That obviously does not mean they are spoiled. Just that they physically cant pay. Congrats on your huge honors and Im sorry again for angering you. but you really cant assume so much about something you dont know about (like calling over 50 percent of kids who cant attend tournaments spoiled brats.) Its cool that you were in the army, and its cool that you got to say hi to the polgar sisters.

and no i did not mean for my post to be a whole mommy and daddy thing. that had nothing to do with anything. i understand people are getting killed, hurt, evicted, unemployed. I've experienced it. Please, i dont mean anything like me being spoiled. Its in fact more of the opposite. Where did you get that money to pay for all your tournaments? You see, most kids cant earn that money. I earn mine from piano comps. I'm really sorry for coming off as a spoiled brat, but what annoys me the most is that I also hate spoiled brats and for you to take a post that had nothing to do with spoiled brats and all of a sudden label me as a spoiled brat, that wasnt exactly the best thing in the world. I understand what u mean, and will quit the club. again, I really dont want to sound like a spoiled brat, and if advertising for a club means people will call me stuff like this, then i will listen and quit the club. You make sense, no matter how mean you are, I understand. Please however dont always be like this. I know many kids who are talented and great at chess but cant go because their family doesnt have enough money. Saying things like this can reall yhurt some people.
