I actually think that Star Wars does not make sense, especially the prequel.
In the prequel, Sheev Palpatine tempts Anakin Skywalker and reveals him as THE sith lord. Anakin pulled out his lightsaber and tells him: "You are the Sith lord!" However, Sheev replies that he can save Anakin's beloved wife, Padme.
The problem is that you can see how emotional Anakin is. He killed every native after his mother died in his arms. It will make much sense logically that Anakin killed Darth Sidious (Sheev Palpatine) and then, his wife became the new chancellor.
The only reason why they didn't do it this way is because the Imperial Period (Episodes IV-VI) were written before the Republic period (prequel, Episodes I-III).
And that they want to make more movies. Period.
And after Anakin killed Sheev Palpatine, the Jedi Council would learn his love life with Padme and they would acknowledge their marriage commitment, and that Luke and Leia Skywalker would be trained officially in the Jedi Temple.
And that Padme would become the new chancellor, and everyone will learn about Anakin and Padme's marriage.
