but the truth is he could never hate her

but he actually just wants her to be happy forever
he says he’s a tough man who wants to be left alone
but all he really wants is for her to hold him in her arms
he says he doesn't mess with love and relationships
but all he wants is for her to love him like he loves her
he says he doesn’t care anymore
but still checks his phone hoping for her name to appear
he says he’s better off without her
but every song still sounds like a memory of her voice
he says he’s too busy chasing dreams
but all his dreams still carry her smile
he says she’s just a chapter closed
but she’s the whole damn story he can't stop rereading
he says he’s numb to it all now
but every quiet night is just him breaking inside a little more
he says he’s stronger now
but every strength he built was just to hide his broken heart
he says he doesn’t believe in forever
but deep down he still hopes she’ll come back and prove him wrong
