The Iceni Live Classic gives an opportunity to play chess online in a friendly tournament at a classical time control (45 minutes with 15 second increment). It is open to players from Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Lincolnshire.

The 5th iteration of this tournament is now complete and featured 46 players in 3 sections. See https://www.chess.com/news/view/announcing-the-winners-of-the-iceni-live-classic-5

The next iteration starts Tuesday 13th July. Details of the tournament are given below and you are cordially invited to enter. For an up-to-date list of players entered so far please see https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/iceni-live-classic-6-list-of-players.

TOURNAMENT TIMETABLE

For this summer iteration of the tournament we have scheduled 5 rounds to take place fortnightly, with the game usually played on Tuesday evening as before.

In exceptional circumstances the game may be rearranged by mutual agreement between the players. This is to allow players to take part in the tournament even though they are not available on all the scheduled dates.

BYES

You can request 2 half-point bye to be taken in any round except the last, or a zero point bye in any round. Backdated requests will not be granted. Contact the Administrator with your request.

If there are an odd number of players entered in a round, one player will be given a half-point bye.

PLATFORM CHOICE

You have a choice of playing your games on chess.com or lichess.org.

If you choose to play on lichess.org your games will contribute to your ECF online standard rating, and for this you must be and ECF member and comply with the ECF online fair play rules. The games are submitted to ECF for rating after each round is complete and ECF update the ratings once a month.

HOW TO ENTER

The deadline for entry is Thursday 13th July.

Contact the Administrator (see below) requesting entry and giving the following information:

Username on your chosen platform

Email address. We ask for your email address so that we can announce pairings and issue other tournament communications by email rather than relying on the chess.com messaging system

ECF membership number (if playing on lichess.org)

DATA PROTECTION

In submitting your application for entry you will be agreeing that we can use the information you provide for the purpose of organising this event, in particular entering names and ratings into SwissSystem.org to generate the pairings, and publishing of the results. Your email address will only be used to communicate with you as a player in the tournament.

RE-ARRANGING YOUR GAME IF NECESSARY

Your game should be played on Tuesday evening if at all possible, but if there is an unavoidable clash with another event, you can re-arrange your game for another date and time by mutual agreement with your opponent. We ask all players to be flexible in this regard.

We will aim to make the pairings for the each round available as early as possible, so re-arranged games should be played as early as is mutually convenient, and no later than the Sunday before the Tuesday scheduled for the next round.
