It’s an interesting idea. It would change one of the fundamentals of chess, namely that standard chess is entirely strategy-driven, with no chance. That could be good or bad, frankly. It would appeal to some and push away others.
Idea: Card Chess

Suggested something like this a while ago, met positive and negative responses, the general idea was that it would be too much to implement as an actual variant and would warrant it's own website/game

Chess, but with a whole new twist that requires both luck and skill.
You start the game with a 52-deck card. Each player gets 7 cards. Before you move, you pick a card and then move. The cards can give you an advantage or a disadvantage. Some of the cards would say:
Make a normal move
Lose a turn
Randomly gives you a piece
Randomly takes away a piece
Move twice in a row
Forces you to move a piece, if possible.
These are some suggestions that would need to be refined.
