RagingRook1747

Me!

yatayan

I do because of the live factor. Same reason I prefer live poker to online poker.

Max8115

Ok_Comi

I prefer the board but sadly this is the way chess is going, why fly to a different country, book a hotel, climatise, change your sleep schedule just to play in a big tournament, when you could just rock up online.. that’s the argument for high level chess, I’d still prefer to play OTB if I get to that stage though

I love the board for the classical experience!  For practicality and time/location purposes, the internet is the new way.  Perhaps the game will follow Star Trek and we will play with holograms some day!?

Playing on the board is best, no doubt there.

But nowadays, we just don't have an option but to play over here!

I love playing over the board, there's a sort of thrill that you get from actually seeing your opponent. With that said though, playing online also has it's advantages.

Really! I never thought about it....

Haven't played over the board in years and only knew how the pieces moved. Would love to play a few games now that I've taken it more seriously!

VastCadet

I do. Its very good. bc i can play by myself.

i like playing on the board, its where the real tension and thrill is. on pc you can play without all those. you dont see your opponents face. pc has lot of advantage, but it can never beat  like playing on the board.

I like playing chess on the board.

I like to play chess on the board, it creates much more excitement, tension, and nerves, and really puts your chess skills to the test. I also enjoy playing on p.c. too, it can learn you quite a lot.

The board is nice, but it has many disadvantages:

1. It does not keep track of the movements, so you do not end up with a record of the game.

2. It does not protect movement against illegal moves, which when playing blitz can be a problem where both players miss that the move was not legal due to a pin or some other reason

3. It does not allow you to play against people who are somewhere else. It only allows you to play with someone who is also present physically.

4. It does not have an automatic timer that clicks exactly when you make the move. You have to manually click an external timer. This in blitz games can be a problem if you are not fast enough clicking the timer.

5. Each time you want to start a new game you need to spend time placing the pieces in their starting positions

6. There usually are no extra pieces that can be used for when you promote a pawn. Standard chess sets just have the exact pieces needed for the game. Having 2 queens or 3 knights on the board due to pawn promotion has to be resolved in less than ideal ways.

7. Computer analysis of a game requires typing in manually all the moves that were made in the game.

The enjoyment which you get on board that enjoyment you will never get on online games...........
