Internal server error when trying to access certain countries' player lists

Hello everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'm having trouble with accessing the player lists of some countries like the US and UK, and I'm assuming that's due to the size of those lists. Does anyone have any ideas about the cause of the problem and solutions or workarounds? Thanks!

As far as I know, there is no UK players list, you have to choose England (XE code), Scotland (XS) or Wales (XW). I don't know about the US players list.

There is a GB list as well as XE etc.. UK players choose to use either depending on their persuasion.

The GB list has been around 20K members recently (up from 6k beginning of 2020) . US list is very large. I download the GB list each day without a problem so I would suspect it's a memory overload issue but can't tell for sure.

The number of active players has increased so much over the past 2 months, that the servers run out of memory trying to create these lists. Over 750,000 players from the USA logged in over the past day, and 2.4 million over the past 30 days.

There is no "UK" country — the United Kingdom is "GB" and the Ukraine is "UA." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2 (However, a 500 error for looking up UK is a bug — it should be a 404 error.)

We will work on a solution for this memory issue soon, but we are a little short-handed at the moment and it might take a few weeks. Maybe longer, depending on how long people are super interested in chess.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

2020 has significantly impacted Chess.com, but 75% of the growth we experienced came from the increased interest in chess after Netflix's "The Queen's Gambit." The other 25% was from Covid lockdowns and increased interest from Twitch streamers due to competitions like Pogchamps.

I was trying to use the same endpoint for purposes of reporting - seeing statistics of number of closed accounts due to cheating per country

But the list of players per country doesn't give you closed accounts by the looks of it.
