Is it a bad sign that I've been playing for a year and a half and only 300 ELO?

It means you want to learn and you've been sticking with it for a year so keep it up!

SaraaaSayshi

No because you're also reading chat at the same time and it's hard enough to focus on one, but you do both.

BlundermasterB

You are like everybody else; normal. See me. a perennial 100. You're better than I will ever be. happy.png
P.S. I named myself [BLUNDER]masterB (B standing for BLUDNER again.) for a reason. Every move I make usually gets ??, and I am proud of it. grin.png

GothamChess on YouTube has videos that are “how to get to 1,000 elo, 1500 elo, etc. and I’ve got better by watching GMs play each other

WhereAre_My_Pawns

I would say that you need to pay attention more and maybe do some excercises if you want to get better, so far you are just talking to chat and kinda randomly moving pieces, so you are getting better only at a very slow rate ;-) btw nice way is to get somebody better on discord so he/she can teach you during live game, that way you are more focused on chess and learn something happy.png

I say Gothamchess because he goes over his subscribers games all the way from people with 100 elo to going over 2000+ elo games, and he explains flaws and what moves that can play to improve, they say it takes 10k hours to master a skill and there’s 8,765 hours in 1 year lol

CabbyChessDaddy

It's a lot of work! The more you do it... The better you'll get!

Lattenkiste

Maybe. Time spent playing doesn't necessarily equate to higher elo.
What's important is the time spent learning from your mistakes, learning new things, and trying to get better.

They say 300 is the new 1500

It's a good sign that you are playing chess. Rating is not that important in my opinion, especially online rating. When you can enjoy the beauty of the game and have fun, everything is fine! 😊

Mikenzie

as long as you enjoy your games who gives a #@&! whart your rating is bean just have fun

j2fischb

If you enjoy the game nothing else really matters. You will find that you suddenly start getting a lot better in a short time period at some point.

Everyone makes progress at their own pace. Things take time. Keep at it!
