Is it possible to get an IM or GM title if you start chess later?
It's better to get either one of them IM or GM title but I'm just playing chess for fun and have more friends.
Ray Duque III, GMBD
I think it is definitely possible for someone to get an IM or GM title if they start chess later on. It may be more difficult (due to work and other responsibilities), but definitely possible. You just have to put a lot of hard work and dedication imo.
Im 2137 USCF and currently grinding for NM ![]()

Wow nice, how old were u when you first started playing?
hey Christamp I have ADHD and it only makes me worse at chess ADHD is suppost to put your head in the clouds not help you in a Chess game
Haha I'm 16 and I'm a 900 rapid lol(at least my highest rapid was 970 or so) although I didn't really pick up playing chess until about a year and a half ago. I still like to say I suck at chess
I am also 16 and was able to reach my peak rating at 1511 I do think its possible to become a titled player even at my age. As long as you set your mind to it and remember to just have fun. I was able within two months of playing get to the rating of 1200+ after 1 year 8 months of playing that is when I hit my peak. I have defeated 1600-2200s within the process of remembering to have fun.
Christamp, IM in high school isn't common.
