before we answer your question, may we ask why are you asking this? did you prefer somebody to win as president? do that preference of yours surely will support chess?
Is Our New President NoyNoy a Chess Buff?
It is really up to the Secretary of Education-to-be as chess was made part of the curriculum by GMA. The natiional chess federation should take the cudgel from here with the help of local governments. And Wes and other prodigies to continue to shine and inspire others.
I suggest chess clubs use the internet to have interclub matches and individual tournaments. This will cost less fot the players and organizers. Maybe someone can set up an internet cafe solely for chess study and play.
From direct, reliable sources: Noynoy likes pusoy and tong-its. Not chess. Cory, during her time, played mahjong in Malacanang.

Dratz...
The President -elect or any president does not have to play chess to support chess. Its up to his advisers to come up with policies/programs that will promote and support chess. Noynoy is into target shooting and cigarette smoking.
correct. But a chessplayer is more likely to support chess than one who does not understand the game at all.
Like President Garcia and President Marcos who were both chess playing presidents. The latter put the Philippines in the chess limelight when chess championships and other sigmificant tournaments were held here.
I'm anti administration (the last one), but Gloria had Pichay as presidential adviser on political affairs and chess did make some progress compared to the earlier presidencies...
During the 60's chess was very wellsupported by media. The Manila Times then sponsored the National Junior Championship so the the young pinoy chess talents were discovered the likes of Naranja, Kaimo et al. A regular chess column and news about chess can be read in newspapers before. Nowadays, it is very rare to see news about chess.
No doubt Pichay did a lot for chess during his tenure and I hope somebody will take his place and improve on what ha has done.
the good thing is, with a president who is a gambler (like his mother who was an avid mahjong player), Pagcor may achieve great heights under his administration and have more money for sports like chess.
Ako naman ang magtatanong?
Can we expect support for chess like the Gloria - Pichay tandem?
