In my opinion chess is an indivdual game. not a team..and guess why they do not support chess, its because only the players and his coach have the opportunity to travel only..pinoys love to travel and if they support popular games (teams)like basketball, govt officials have the opportunity to go along w/the players together w/ the "alalays"...one more thing, is "palakasan" system.they send players according to their choice, not the most qualified. proof is,it happens in national level..another thing is the govt. rush to support a player if he/she is already a champion and known by the world w/o supporting him/her and claiming them their very own..i think there is no hope in chess in the phils.unless they change their mindset..

an excerpt:
Earlier, Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) founding head Ceferino "Perry" Mariano and Local Water Utilities Administration chairman Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr., former three-term representative from first district of Surigao del Sur, president/chairman of National Chess Federation of the Philippines already backed Jaworski's PSC chairmanship bid along with Philippine Cycling legal counsel and former NCFP secretary-general lawyer Samuel Estimo and Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (Patafa) chief head Go Teng Kok.
“Senator Jaworski is the best choice of PSC chair. He perfectly understands RP sports and Filipino sports men. His never-say-die attitude would inspire our athletes to win more medals for flag and country in international competitions. He could be the best thing that ever happened to the Philippine Sports Commission.” said lawyer Estimo, a two-time Olympian chess member.

Maybe we can learn a few from the "Odessa Files" which just concluded a conference on how to promote chess.
Not all Presidents play chess. It's up to the National Association tasked with promoting chess to do the neccessary action to get the attention of the President for support just like what Pichay did. Anybody who has the connection should think about chess progress not personal interest. Personal interest ruined chess in the past.
I personally like Jawo. He is a credible person. His "never say die" attitude may rub on to the Philippine sports as a whole. I just hope chess will not be neglected under his rein.

Ah, don't you guys read Bobby Ang? He says Noynoy plays chess and even played with GM Torre and Antonio during an important training match for Antonio. But more than this, I can say that Pichay did many things for RP chess. But Gloria? Come on.
Bro Pulsar, that's a relief to hear... Later we will ask Noynoy and Wesley to play...
For Gloria, she no, but she did listen to Pichay. That's why we have PGMA cup and chess curiculum...
