Hello everyone I was wondering if there is a USCF dresscode? I’m going to be playing some more OTB soon but, was wondering if there are things I should avoid wearing? Thanks in advance to anyone happy.png

Okay thanks, that’s good to know! I’ve only played 1 OTB but, it was at a park and was a more casual setting so I wasn’t sure what others were like.

Just wear what you normally wear and it should be fine.

Don't wear blue and white colors to the U. of Louisville chess club; don't wear red and white colors to the U. of KY (Lexington) chess club. Not joking!

Why would you suggest that?? Obviously a special set of clothes is needed for a special occasion!! @ricorat, what you need is a lucky shirt, or maybe a lucky hat or something!!

If you don't wear clothes in public, you will be arrested for public indecency. You will spend some time in the county jail. But It is not mandatory though.

Hmmm not a bad idea except I don’t have anything that I’d consider lucky

A pretty universal principle for chess tournaments:

Do NOT distract your opponent.

From this principle you can assume the following rules:

1) No loud music/ headphones.

2) Touch move ( touching multiple pieces and squares is quite distracting)

3) Outside players cannot bring attention to illegal moves or time outs

So I would assume the guideline for dress would be to dress reasonably as to not distract anyone.

Bobby Fischer wore yellow sweaters (probably not in summer).

And yellow is my favorite color. I'll have to remember this.
