I've been stuck at the same elo for months.

I have been stuck at 1500 elo for a couple of months now and I want to reach 2000 by the end of the year. Does anyone at or above 2000 have any suggestions on how to improve one's game? I have time to dedicate so all solutions are welcome.

Gorgonops

can safely say its not happening.

I would say doing a lot of puzzle rush, and narrow your opening repertoire to just 2-3 openings. Also never stop your calculations after your move!!

Sadly 500 elo points is crazy hard in only 4 months. Most can't even do that in a year's time.

ey 1500 is so much. I suck at 850

I know that 500 elo is a lot. I mainly just want to get out of this plateau that I'm in right now. I would like to sharpen my talents and at least get to 1600. Any suggestions on how to do that? Any books/exercises that could help?

For me when I hit a plateau I take a break. When I come back I’ll drop around 100 ELO I’ll do puzzles analyze the openings being played against me and play consistently and I’ll move back up. Most recently I got hard stuck around 1580 I took a bit of a break came back and dropped to 1500 now my rating is all time high of 1650. Hope this helps. Peace ✌🏼

Thanks, I will check it out!

Are you just playing and not working on attacking your weaknesses through study? That could be an issue.

Yeah its important to see what parts of your game can be lacking, learning and practicing some endgames helped me a lot not just because it helped me play through the endgame but improved my overall understanding of how to think in a game. I personally recommend the book 100 endgames you must know by Jesus de la villa.

I always liked the Reti. Its a really hyper modern game. I switched to the English, looking for change to transform it the Catalin. From that you go the Queen Gambit line

I think you should play 15+10 or 30 minute games(at most tournaments I go to over the board, the time control is like this), so you can think about your moves and do all the calculations.

I do review the games that I lose. I try to figure out the things that went wrong and what I can do better next time. I think the main thing for me is getting better at my endgames. I struggle with simple rook v rook and pawn(s) v pawn(s) endgames.

puzzles & thinking

im only 1900 but the way to make 1700 is:
1. pick a repertoire
try and find openings you want to try or feel comfortable with.
try to add as few openings as possible
2. watch youtube videos and if possible read on the openings you want to learn also use an engine to find moves in positions you get a lot. you dont have to be a master at the opening yet just learn the first 7 moves well.
3. do puzzles on lichess i feel they are better because they are more practical examples
4. learn rook endgames and queen endgames. also learn the philidor and lucena positions.
also learn triangulation and outflanking
5. dont play tilted. once you lose a couple in a row resist the urge to play more and call it quits because you will just keep losing rating.
if you use this you could definitely get to 1700 in a month or 2

Look for a way to improve on endgames.

Maybe videos, master games, books

Thanks for the kind words. I will use all of the suggested methods.

The best way to improve your rating is to play as much as possible and do lessons and puzzles. You probably won’t get 500 points, but you should slowly see your rating go up with time
