jailbreaking?

yesterday i heard someone talking about jailbreaking an ipod. what is that? any of u ever done it?

Personally I don't think it's worth the risks.

i think its now illegal.

Jailbreaking is risk-free if you use the Dev-Team's tools (another early jailbreaking tool for iPhone 1.x could brick your device). I've jailbroken my iPhone 2G and have never had any problems relating to jailbreaking.  It lets me have backgrounds and applications that are impossible using the iPhone SDK - I've really enjoyed it and think it's a shame that Apple tries to make it difficult!

Apple claims jailbreaking is illegal based on provisions in the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA), but the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has proposed an exception for unlocking/jailbreaking mobile phone devices.  Apple's claim (not actually taken up in any court, yet) is an abuse of the DMCA which prevents fair use - it's your device, if you want to install non-Apple-approved software on it, then that should be your choice!  (Imagine buying a computer and Microsoft telling you that you can't put any software on it that wasn't manufactured by Microsoft!  Nobody would stand for it)

Long story short, jailbreaking is fine for your iPhone/iPod Touch and can provide for some added functionality to make it even cooler, but the bottom line is you probably don't need it if you worry about the steps you would have to take to jailbreak.

i have jailbroken, but ive decided it is becoming to much stress for a few added features. if it does become illegal i dont need any trouble so im restoring.

I have read on Hiarcs forum (where many developers talk each other) that a jailbroken phone gives the developers really better posibilities. I have a non-jailbroken phone
